You're not getting callbacks. The reason is almost certainly ATS.
Roughly 75% of resumes are rejected by automated software before a recruiter ever reads them. Not because you're underqualified — because your resume doesn't match what the algorithm is scanning for. ezapply checks your resume against the job description, finds the gaps, and fixes them.

What is an ATS and why does it matter?
ATS stands for Applicant Tracking System. It's the software companies use to receive, parse, and rank job applications before a human recruiter ever sees them. More than 98% of Fortune 500 companies use ATS, and most mid-size companies do too. Your resume is scored against a keyword target list derived from the job description — too low a score and you're filtered out automatically.
What's a good ATS score?
Most companies advance candidates who score above 70–80% on their ATS keyword match. Scores below 60% are typically filtered out before reaching a recruiter. There's no universal scale — each ATS system and each company calibrates differently — but the goal is always to match the specific language of the job description as closely as possible.
Which ATS systems are most commonly used?
The major platforms are Workday, Greenhouse, Lever, iCIMS, Taleo (Oracle), and Jobvite. They all function similarly — parsing your resume, extracting key data, and scoring keyword match — but they handle formatting differently. Workday, for example, is known to struggle with PDF parsing; submitting a Word doc can sometimes improve parsing accuracy.
Does a two-column resume hurt my ATS score?
Yes — significantly. Most ATS systems read left-to-right, top-to-bottom, like a single-column document. When they encounter a two-column layout, they often merge both columns into a single line or scramble the order entirely. Skills from the right column may end up inline with job titles from the left, or disappear completely. Always use a single-column layout for ATS optimization.
Should I use a PDF or Word document when applying?
It depends on the ATS. Most modern systems handle PDF well. Workday and some older platforms parse Word (.docx) more reliably. If you don't know what ATS the company uses, submitting a clean PDF is generally safe. Avoid PDFs exported from complex design tools (Canva, InDesign) — those often embed text as images, which ATS systems cannot read at all.
Can I check my ATS score for free?
Yes — ezapply includes an ATS score with every resume you optimize, free for up to 3 resumes per month. You'll see your current score against the job description, which keywords are missing, and get a rewritten resume that addresses the gaps. No credit card required to start.
